Lauren Kinhan has been working and
creating music with the world-class
New York Voices since 1992 --
winning a many awards including a Grammy
Award in 1997.
Lauren is coming to the Jazz Base to
showcase her solo career where she
continues to bridge musical genres that
span jazz, pop, blues, folk, classical
and Brazilian jazz with ease.
Lauren is known for her charismatic
performances and unique spin on original
music with a singer/songwriter flair.
Her shows are eclectic, with her love of
good music leading the charge, and great
musicianship taking the audience on a
refreshing new ride.
In 2000, Lauren recorded her debut solo
project -- Hardly Blinking -- an
eclectic set of original songs. They are
lush with story, built on a musical
palate ranging from earthy acoustic
settings to cleverly layered
productions. Produced by three musical
powerhouses, Phil Ramone (Billy Joel,
Phoebe Snow), Frank Filipetti (James
Taylor), and Rob Mounsey (Steely Dan,
Paul Simon) it was an opportunity for
Lauren to stretch her wings in a genre
that is as interesting to her as the
jazz art form.
In January 2010, Lauren will release her
much anticipated second solo project --
Avalon.
"Lauren is musical, lyrical, and really delivers vocally. I am a
devoted fan of Lauren Kinhan." -- Phil Ramone

Blues Night
Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials
Tickets: $20 at door or in

"I don't talk a lot on
stage," the affable
guitarist said. "People
aren't interested in when
the song was made; they just
want to have a good time.
"I play my music, and I play
what comes to me. I try to
have a good time. That's all
I try to do. And I think the
people really love the
music."
As a mainstay artist with Alligator Records, Williams has been honing his brand of raucous blues for the last few decades.
The Imperials will hit town the Jazz Base as Williams promotes his latest album, Full Tilt, a collection that showcases his classic blues sensibility through both original tunes and covers.
Williams said fans can expect a fairly loose show as he's still translating his newest studio tracks to the stage.
According to Williams, domestic bliss keeps every aspect of the music business, including the accolades and prestigious blues awards he's won over the years, in perspective.
"At some point, I know I'm going to have to retire," he said. "It won't be a choice. I saw my uncle play until the day he died, and I kind of don't want to do that. At a certain point, I'll just want to relax with my wife. "I believe that I'm blessed in what I've got. I'm not trying to reach for B.B. King or Eric Clapton status. I love those guys, and King is one of the most modest men I've met."

Smooth Jazz 92.7 Night
Marc Antoine & Brian Simpson
Tickets: $23 at door or in
advance
The Jazz Base is thrilled to present this
special concert featuring two of the biggest names in contemporary
jazz.
Guitarist, composer and producer, Marc
Antoine, was born in Paris (France) on the 28th of May 1963. His
parents bought him his first guitar when he was 11 years old which
quickly became his third arm. Marc has had a guitar in his hands
ever since.
As a true citizen of the world, Marc has kept moving, arriving in
Los Angeles in the 1990s. He stayed there for 12 years playing for
music royalty such as Sting, Celine Dion, Rod Stewart, Cher, Selena,
Queen Latifah, George Benson, Guru Jazzmatazz, Take 6 and others. He
composed and performed for major movie soundtracks: "Get Shorty;"
"The Fan;" "Patch Adams;" "Midnight In The Garden Of Good and Evil;"
"Demolition Man;" and "Celtic Pride."
Marc's
career boasts many top hits on the R&R contemporary jazz charts, as
well as topping the Billboard charts. In 1995, R&R elected
him Best New Artist of The Year, which was followed by his
Gavin Award in 1998. He has also received numerous nominations for
jazz awards in the US and Canada.
Regularly touring with contemporary jazz artists like Dave Koz,
Chris Botti, Jeff Lorber, Jeffrey Osborne, David Benoit, Larry
Carlton and others, he also performs or records with jazz legends
such as Peter Erskine, Jimmy Haslip, Mike Mainieri, Dave Valentin,
Christian McBride, and Mark Egan to name a few.
A longtime studio musician, musical director, and touring
keyboardist to stars as diverse as Janet Jackson and Dave Koz, Brian
Simpson’s breakthrough as a solo artist with his Rendezvous
Entertainment debut It’s All Good was the genre’s major
story of 2006. Focusing once again on compelling acoustic piano
melodies, bright jazz improvisations and spirited funk grooves,
Simpson keeps the extraordinary momentum hopping -- and, true to the
moniker he chose for the new album, soaring -- with
Above The Clouds.
The title track of It’s All Good proved instantly and
joyfully prophetic, as it hit #1 on the charts and remained in the
top-five for four months.

Candy Dulfer

Contemporary jazz superstar Candy Dulfer
and her funky band are coming to the Jazz
Base for two special shows as part of the
5th Anniversary Celebration of the club.
That's right -- Candy Dulfer will be
performing in the up-close-and-personal Jazz
Base!
Nearly two decades after her
Grammy-nominated recording debut in 1990,
saxophonist Candy Dulfer has earned a
reputation as a high-energy performer with
charisma and sex appeal to burn.
Dulfer bares it all -- the brassy and edgy,
along with a few mellow touches -- with her
latest release Funked Up! on the
Heads Up label.
The 12-track set features the revved-up
funk and R&B typical of Dulfer's legendary
live shows, laced with a few cooler, quieter
grooves to keep things interesting.
The more lively tracks on Funked Up!
started coming together not long after the
2007 release of Dulfer's previous recording,
Candy Store. In the meantime, she and
her band had been asked by Dutch filmmaker
Fred van Dijk to record the soundtrack for
"Kissed by the Grape," a documentary
exploring the world of organic winemaking.
The film project steered them into a more
ambient groove -- the ideal complement to
the rhythmically intense material that
they'd already recorded.
Funked Up! is a snapshot of all the
benchmarks that make up Candy Dulfer's live
performances -- lots of high-energy,
in-your-face grooves, punctuated by
intriguing moments of subtlety and nuance.
Jazz Base fans are in for a real Dutch
treat!
